history; Shinji was the older and only male child, with two younger sisters who may or may not have mutant ability. His parents were both well off career people who were rarely home. He was sent to boarding school upon entering middle school (aust. standard year 7, age 12), but didn’t mind since it meant three solid meals a day, and supper, which Shinji feels means four meals a day. He took up music and enjoys playing guitar as it distracts him from what is going on around him and helps him to think only of himself.

In his final year of middle school (year 9 aust. standard, general age 14) Shinji began to have strong feelings of what he thought other people were thinking. He started to test it, seeing if he could get the answers for tests of teachers, seeing if he knew who was going to do what in a fight and so on and found he was almost always correct. It was in one such fight during the holiday period at home between the transition from middle school to high school (years 9 and 10 aust. standard age 14-15) when he was fighting with the oldest of his sisters that his power exploded, nullifying all her thoughts and putting her in a coma, in which she remains today.

Shinji was approached by Sakaki-Sensei in the same holiday period and accepted a place in his school, convincing his parents to send him to the new private school, which didn’t take all that much effort. Having gained a higher level of control, though still faulty, Shinji is bored with people. No one holds his interest; they are all too easy to see through and their convictions, he feels, are weak. This is part of what drew him to Sakaki; Sakaki’s complete belief that what he is doing is right. Shinji is now 16 and in his second year of High School (aust. standard year 11).

powers; Shinji’s power is a psionic based ability, closest to that of Monitor in the X-men comics. He has the ability to read and interpret brain waves of the people around him, and then nullify or numb those he doesn’t particularly like. He can’t alter the original recipient’s brain wave pattern at this point in his development. Shinji is still only developing his ability, and it’s not always controllable. He still has trouble blocking out brain waves that are not his own, and often numbs patterns he doesn’t like by accident.

In the future: Shinji should develop much greater control over his abilities and be able to eventually alter the brain wave patterns he senses rather than simply nullifying it.
